Kate Barker

These vibrant works cleverly combine  line drawing and mark making with painting. Kate experiments with colour, adding gestural details of coastal plants and rock formations she reveals the beauty and fragility of our coasts.

She walks the coastline with her sketch book, pencils, pens and paints, collecting studies and making small paintings, documenting and generating all the information she needs to create larger works back in her studio in South Devon.

‘I want my works to transport the viewer to that special place, evoke memories and sentiments of being by the ocean and feeling the wind in your hair and tasting that salt on your face. Developing a connection with a place or subject is what draws me in to create a piece.”
