OCEANS

A new collection of paintings that convey the rhythm, motion and raw energy of the sea.

With this new body of paintings I wish to share my deep connection and relationship with the ocean. Each painting is a response to the sea's rhythm, natural energy and movement, its shifting moods and ever changing presence.

Waters Edge

Walking along the coastal path, I head down a sandy track and onto the beach, I set up my spot on the rocks, close to the shoreline. I love to paint in the landscape 'en plain air', as with every sitting the experience is always unique - it is where the essence of a painting first reveals itself. Alone with my thoughts and fully in the moment, I begin a conversation with the sea. The works mature and develop over time and with each sitting, outside in the environment and back in the studio. Responding to my surroundings intuitively with paint, I work freely, playfully and experimentally and strive to transfer the sea's rhythm and movement onto the canvas.
